A new railway crossing on the border with Moldova has become operational for Ukrainian cargo

The work of the railway border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova "Berezyne-Basarabiaska" has started. Valeriy Tkachev, deputy director of the commercial work department of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, reported this on Facebook.

"We inform you about the start of operation of the additional border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova — Berezine-Basarabiaska (Serpneve-1-Basarabiaska). From March 25, it is possible to transport export/transit cargo in the direction of the ports of Reni, Galati, Giurgiulesti along a much shorter route," he wrote.

At the same time, Valery Tkachev specified that the specified route is an alternative to the transit routes through the border crossings with Moldova — Sokyryani-Oknytsia and Mohyliv-Podilskyi — Velchynets.

According to the representative of Ukrzaliznytsia, the new route will allow, in particular:

increase the volume of export/transit cargo transportation in the direction of the ports of Reni, Galati, Giurgiulesti (up to 4-10 million tons per year);

significantly shorten the delivery time of export goods to the specified ports (by 4-6 days);

significantly reduce the total cost of transporting export cargo to ports, which, according to estimates, will be from $10 to $35 per ton (depending on the cargo and route).
