Corn production will decrease by 9% this year - forecast

According to the forecast of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the production of gross crop production in 2023 will decrease by 2.1% compared to the indicators of 2022, mainly due to the reduction of winter wheat and corn volumes.

The director of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economy", Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Yuriy Lupenko, told about this.

According to him, the sown areas of grain and leguminous crops will decrease by almost 9% compared to last year. Most under rye and rice (-20%); in absolute terms, for wheat - by 690,000 ha, and for corn - by 285,000 ha.

At the same time, in 2023, the massifs of spring crops will grow by a total of 8.2%, and the total sown area compared to the previous war year will decrease insignificantly.

Crop areas will grow under technical crops. In particular, this year the area under sunflower and soybeans is expected to increase by 10-12%, rapeseed by 20%.

According to the forecasts of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, in 2023 the production of grain and leguminous crops is expected to be at the level of 89% compared to 2022. Compared to the previous year, the production of winter cereals will decrease by 7.6%, spring - by 6.4%, corn for grain - by 9%.
