Duties and quotas on Ukrainian imports will remain suspended until June 2025 — European Parliament

The European Parliament on Tuesday, April 23, supported the extension of the duty-free trade agreement with Ukraine with additional safeguards to protect European farmers.

This is stated in the press service of the European Parliament.

Yes, the agreement was extended until June 5, 2025. 428 deputies voted for it, 131 against it, 44 abstained.

According to the new rules, the European Commission can quickly react and apply the measures it deems necessary in the event of serious problems on the EU market or one or more member countries due to Ukrainian agricultural imports.

Safeguards are provided for poultry, eggs, oats, cereals, corn and honey. If imports exceed the average volumes of imports in the second half of 2021 and in 2022-2022, the tariffs may be restored.

Now, in order to continue the agreement, this decision must be supported by the EU Council.

We will remind you that on April 8, the European Parliament and the European Council previously agreed to suspend import duties and quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products for another year, but with greater protection for European farmers and stricter restrictions for Ukrainian products.

Part of the compromise decision of the EU countries regarding the introduction of restrictions on the import of certain types of agricultural products from Ukraine was the introduction of export tariffs against Russian supplies of similar products.
