Farmers try innovative approaches on demo fields

Every year, AF "Olgopil" tests different varieties of wheat, creates an agronomic training ground of various selections - both domestic and imported selection.

More than 80 hybrids of winter wheat are presented at the agropolygon. The farm also laid several demo sites, testing winter rapeseed hybrids, 93 corn hybrids, and even 7 varieties of sugar beet.

"The main task is to achieve a mass of a thousand seeds, germination, high germination energy. Therefore, the first thing that is needed is special equipment for its cleaning and finishing," says Pavlo Kalenych.

According to him, thanks to the establishment of demonstration sites, it is possible to select the best from what is offered by various companies and scientific institutes, and also to test the seeds in our arid latitudes.

"This year, the early warming allowed the farm to start sowing earlier, which had a positive effect on the development of crops. Spring sowing was completed in mid-April and we have already received good seedlings of peas, wheat, barley and lentils," added Pavlo Kalenych.

He also noted that beets have sprouted in all areas, corn and sunflowers are sprouting.

 

"The main task was and still is to catch moisture and give the plants timely and appropriate nutrition," the farmer noted.
