In Chernihiv Oblast, the first biomethane plant was connected to the gas network

The first biomethane plant was opened in Ukraine. The first cubic meters of gas went to gas distribution networks. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Biomethane plant "Hals Agro" was connected to gas distribution networks of Ukraine. The enterprise will produce about 3 million cubic meters of gas per year, which will be consumed by almost 1.5 thousand customers — the population and industry.
At the first stage, gas will enter the network in the autumn-winter period. After the construction of the second stage and ringing of the networks, the supply will become year-round.
The Hals Agro plant in Chernihiv region was built in 2018. Initially, he worked for the production of biogas, which was used to generate electricity.
In the second half of 2023, the investors plan to install another biomethane production module. The raw material for the production of biomethane is waste from the agricultural sector.
According to Mykola Solskyi, Ukraine has a great potential for biomethane production. Ukrainian farmers are quite interested in the development of this industry and are already ready to join. The construction of new capacities or the conversion of existing ones will allow not only to abandon the import of gas, which will contribute to our energy security, but will also be able to turn Ukraine into a reliable exporter of biomethane, and will also ensure the energy decentralization of Ukraine.
"The topic of biomethane is alive and interesting, and it is very good that there are enterprises in Ukraine that are ready to join the development of this industry. I know that they studied the European experience, got acquainted with the work of biomethane plants in different countries. I am sure that this experience will be successfully implemented in Ukraine. For its part, the Ministry contributed to the development of the legislative framework for the development of the biomethane industry," said Minister of Agricultural Policy Mykola Solskyi.
