In some regions, frosts damaged seedlings of corn and soybeans - NAAS
The first decade of May was characterized by variable weather conditions. In the second half of the decade, a sharp cooling, unusual for this period, took place.
This is stated in the "Analytical report on agro-meteorological conditions and the condition of agricultural crops in Ukraine" by NAAS specialists.
As experts noted, after an almost two-week period of high temperature regime, the drop in air temperature during the last week caused some stress in plants of winter, early spring grain and leguminous crops.
Thus, according to the report of the Institute of Agriculture of the North East of the National Academy of Sciences, as of May 8, there was no damage to winter wheat, which was in the "appearance of the last flag leaf" phase, and plants of early grain crops. At the same time, the share of damaged seedlings of corn and soybean plants in the early sowing period was 3-5%.
According to scientists, in order to mitigate the situation that may arise in the near future on crops (if the air temperature drops to minus values), it is necessary to treat the plants by spraying them with microfertilizers of organic origin, necessarily with amino acids.
"In order to improve the condition of crops, careful care of them is necessary, in particular, timely treatment of crops with plant protection products with the addition of nutrients to the tank mixture, in particular, nitrogen fertilizers and trace elements that improve seed binding and the formation of full grains," - advise NAAS experts.
