In Dnipropetrovsk, partly Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions, mites are spreading in sunflower and corn crops.
Oleksandr Myglovets, director of the Department of Agricultural Technologies of Ukravit, told about this in the special project "Difficult spring and the development of diseases: how to save the harvest - 2024" on Kurkulc.com.
He noted that farmers and Ukravit managers have been reporting this for several weeks.
"Mites are such a non-standard and uncommon story, but visual damage is already visible on the plants. Currently, acaricides or insect-acaricides are used on these crops, which have not been used en masse for probably 4-5 seasons. The distribution range of pests and diseases, weather conditions are changing, and therefore in the fields you can find things that are not typical for them at all," said the representative of the company.
The specialist also added that the sunflower is currently in different phases: farmers have reseeded some fields, and the culture has several pairs of leaves, and in some places the formation of a "star" is already there. Therefore, in some regions, manifestations of primary and secondary infection with peronosporosis, fomosis, alternaria and septoriosis are already observed. But for now, these are just initial flashes.
For the first spraying of culture, Oleksandr Myglovets recommends using:
in arid regions — Capital (azoxystrobin, cyproconazole, epoxyconazole) or Sinan (difenoconazole, pyraclostrobin);
for more hydrated ones — Protector Extra (thiophanate-methyl, flutriafol) or Desaral Extra (carbendazim, flutriafol).
