International organizations will direct the main funding to Ukrainian farmers

Executive Director of the American Oakland Institute Anuradha Mittal called on the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to stop financing Ukrainian agricultural holdings. This is stated in a letter available to AgroPolit.com.

"It is necessary to fundamentally change our approach. The end of the war should be a moment and an opportunity to rethink the economic model, in which oligarchy and corruption no longer dominate, and land and resources are controlled and benefit all Ukrainians. This will become the basis for the transformation of the agricultural sector in order to make it more democratic, ecologically and socially sustainable," the letter states.

According to the author of the report, one of the key factors is that large agricultural companies and oligarchs receive significant financing from the EBRD and the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank. He added that in such conditions, Ukrainian farmers are forced to work with limited amounts of land and insufficient funding.

"Since Ukrainian farmers play a key role in providing the domestic market with food, it is they who need to be given the main support, instead of agricultural holdings and oligarchs," concluded Anuradha Mittal in the letter.
