Overwetting of the soil is noted in some regions of Ukraine — NAAS

According to the Ukrhydrometeorological center, at the end of March, the reserves of productive moisture in the arable layer of the soil under winter crops and in the fallow season corresponded to sufficient and optimal indicators and amounted to 22 to 50 mm of productive moisture. This is evidenced by the data of the "Analytical report on agro-meteorological conditions and the condition of agricultural crops in Ukraine" of the National Academy of Sciences.

At the same time, the soil was overmoistened in some areas of the western and northern regions. Only in the southern regions of the Odesa region, the moistening of the arable layer of the soil was satisfactory (11-20 mm of productive moisture).

The depth of spring wetting of the soil in the Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions was from 80 to 150 cm or more.

"The alternating decrease and increase in air temperature, partial surface freezing of the soil and, in some places, its strong overwetting created minor stress conditions for the spring development of winter crops. At the same time, this cooling was short-term, it did not affect the vegetation, it only slightly stopped the growth processes, since the regrowth of the leaf surface and the root system was still insignificant. No negative consequences for winter grain crops were noted," NAAS explained.

According to the NSC "Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences" plants of winter wheat, triticale, winter rye and winter barley are in the phases of "trubbing" - "coming into the tube".

Winter rapeseed plants of the optimal sowing period are in the phase of "development of rosette leaves". In general, the condition of crops is good. However, the so-called "saucers" with water were noted on the lowered areas of the relief, where the plants have a depressed state, pale yellow leaves and are characterized by all the signs of getting wet.

Also, experts of the National Academy of Sciences noted that due to the rains, the farms temporarily suspended the started sowing of late grain and leguminous crops, but grain germination and seedlings are already noted in the early sowing of wheat and spring barley. Germination of grain is also noted in early sowing of peas.

In connection with difficult weather conditions during the last week, the sowing rates of late grain and leguminous crops decreased somewhat.

So, as of April 7, farmers of all regions in the controlled territory began sowing spring crops. As of the reporting date, 620.5 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops were already sown.

Farmers of Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy regions have started planting sugar beets.

Farmers of Mykolaiv Oblast, Odesa Oblast, Ternopil Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast and Bukovyna started sowing sunflower seeds.
