Sowing has already started in 18 regions: details

Spring sowing in Ukraine is gaining momentum. So far, farmers of 18 oblasts have already started sowing spring crops. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, writes agronews.ua.

It is noted that 293 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops were sown by all categories of farms, of which:

spring wheat - 76.1 thousand ha;

spring barley - 168.1 thousand ha;

peas - 35.3 thousand ha;

oats - 14.2 thousand ha.

Farmers of Ternopil Oblast have sown the most spring grain and leguminous crops so far - 67.6 thousand ha.

Over the past week, a total of 210,000 hectares of grain and leguminous crops were sown, with Ternopil Oblast leading the way - 47,200 hectares.

Farmers of Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy regions have started planting sugar beets.

In addition, the farmers of Odesa region have started to sow sunflowers.

According to preliminary data of the structural subdivisions of regional state administrations, the expected sown area of all categories of farms in the controlled territory of Ukraine for the 2023 harvest should amount to 21.8 million hectares, which is 6.8 million hectares less than the figure for 2021 (28.6 million hectares) .
