THE DROUGHT OF 2023 BECAME HISTORIC FOR ARGENTINA

The drought of 2023 became historic for Argentina. It is predicted that the harvest will decrease by another 20%. This was reported by Karen Braun, a global commentator on US agriculture, writes Kurkul.com.

According to a new report by USDA experts, the country's corn harvest will not exceed 40 million tons, the forecast was reduced by 7 million tons compared to the previous month.

“Argentina's soybean crop is now expected to fall 35% from the USDA's original forecast, more than in 2009 or 2018. The USDA has cut the crop by nearly 20% this month alone. The 2023 drought is truly historic,” said Karen Brown.

Also, the Consortium of Argentine Agricultural Companies said it was downgrading forecasts for this season's soybean and corn harvests due to historic drought and summer freezes, which they warned could cost the country more than $20 billion.

"Argentina is on track to lose more than $20 billion this year in agricultural losses caused by a climate disaster that has hit most productive regions with drought and frost," the CREA report said.
