Ukraine can maintain its export potential at the level of $20 billion

This year, Ukraine will be able to sow almost the same area as last year. This will make it possible to grow at least twice as much as Ukrainians consume. And also to maintain the export potential of the agricultural sector at the level of the previous year - more than $20 billion.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

"Last year's forecast did not take into account part of the de-occupied Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. The government is taking maximum measures so that a significant part of these areas, which still need to be inspected and demined, is also planted. Therefore, it is possible that in the end we will even reach slightly larger areas than last year," said First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi on the air of the telethon "Edyny novyni".

He added that the demining process is quite complex and long-term, so there is a risk that about half a million hectares, or 2% of the total national agricultural area, may not be sown.

Also, according to the first deputy minister, in this year's sowing there is a greater focus on oil crops, which will lead to a partial decrease in the gross production of grain crops in Ukraine.

"This will not have a significant impact on the domestic market, because we will grow at least twice as much as we consume. But this will affect the international markets, because as a result, it can support the trend towards rather expensive raw materials, high world prices for grains," explained Taras Vysotskyi.

Currently, according to him, the focus of support is aimed primarily at the farmers of the front-line and de-occupied regions, because they are the ones who need it the most.

"Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine are being finalized in the Verkhovna Rada, which should allow agrarians to be exempted from paying many taxes that are tied to the cultivation of land in the de-occupied territories, as well as where hostilities took place. I hope that the deputies will consider them at the next convocation.

The second direction is material assistance. Thanks to the support of international partners, we are now distributing seeds and mineral fertilizers for free, primarily to the frontline regions, so that after all, agrarians and farmers have the opportunity to carry out sowing work on the maximum area," Taras Vysotskyi summarized.

As a reminder, corn is the leader among exported goods in February.
