Up to 20% of the area of winter grain crops is affected by pests and diseases
Due to the moderately warm weather throughout the territory of Ukraine, the development and spread of striped fleas, cereal aphids, flies, bread leeches, and leafhoppers occurs in crops of winter grain crops. Lesions were found on 5-20% of the area. This is reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy with reference to the information provided by the Consumer Service.
The flight of the harmful turtle bug in crops of winter grain crops was recorded in Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhzhya, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy regions.
"Up to 20% of areas in the Kherson region are inhabited by the pest. and Zaporizhzhia region. Colonization of crops by pests will be stretched over time. The reason is air temperature fluctuations," the message reads.
According to the information, a mass flight of bedbugs to crops will occur with the onset of persistent warming to the mark of 16-17°С and above within 3-4 days.
Diseases of winter and spring ear crops are also progressing, which are controlled by spraying crops with fungicides.
"In winter crops, septoriosis and powdery mildew became the most common, with 5-39% of surveyed areas affected by 2-10, 12-25% of plants in Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions," experts inform.
In some places, 10% of plants are affected by helminthosporiosis, other spots, brown leaf rust, and root rot. On 5-20% of the examined areas of spring barley, 1-5% of the plants were affected by powdery mildew, helminthosporiosis, and dark brown spotting.
According to the operational information of the State Production and Consumer Service in the regions as of May 2, 2024, the protection of agricultural crops against harmful organisms was carried out on an area of 8.4 million hectares, of which the following were treated:
weeds - 3.8 million hectares;
diseases - 2.2 million hectares;
pests - 2.4 million ha.
