Without rains, barley in Odesa may not form grain - a farmer

In the south of Odesa, farmers are waiting for rains and can start harvesting barley already at the beginning of June. Serhiy Bodya, the head of FG "SIM-AGROYUG", said this, writes SuperAgronom.com.

The farm finished sowing corn. And the winter ones are now in the flowering phase, which is already coming to an end.

"If there is no rain in the coming week, the barley may not form a grain. That is, it will not be of that nature. It rained about a month ago. But we have very strong winds and sun. And here there is no reserve of winter precipitation. And although there were spring rains this year, this moisture is unproductive," said Serhii Bodia.

He predicts that the farm's 2024 harvest will begin earlier.

 

"We plan to harvest barley at the beginning of June, around the 10th. There is wheat that has lost the lower tier of leaves. I talk to local farmers, where there are dense crops and narrow row spacing, there are all the conditions for the development of diseases. There is no potential for a large harvest, and a person does not want to invest in fungicides. It so happened that farming is unprofitable in the South of Ukraine. 2.5-3 t/ha can be extracted," said Serhii Bodia.
